If the TDC /Crankshaft Position sensor is faulty it will cause starting problems and sometimes running problems. If the Camshaft Position Sensor is fautly the engine will still usually run,but like a bag of s##te!.

99% of the time the TDC sensor is at fault as small metal filings from the flywheel/clutch area stick to the magnetic pick up and block the signal, hence why cleaning it usually has a positive effect. The Camshaft Position Sensor is usually placed in an area where metal fragments are less of a problem......

Now there's 2 sensor?!

Indeed excellent post..pls can you give us the location of the other camshaft position sensor? Or if possible pics pls. 1 rep point for you

In my part of the world the TDC also known as engine speed sensor which is the crankshaft position sensor.

Hi Hypermount - if you go back through this thread you will see pics of an old and new sensor side by side - guess which one is the newest - alright I'l tell you - its the shiniest one The new one has to be the same shape otherwise it wouldn't fit - the only thing that has changed is the wiring loom and connections
Have you done a search of the forum - there is loads of info on the subject.

Oh Yes the camshaft sensor is up close to the camshaft usually around the front of the engine

Thanks.. I might need help to id the the camshaft sensor..I know it's around the cam cover area but dunno how it looks like one..

Managed to take out the sensor. Is it normal the flywheel looks so rusty thru the rectangular hole where we took out the TDC sensor.

That rusty flywheel gear..

The thermostat housing with a bleeding screw was directly above the sensor..stuffs could flow into the hole contaminates the flywheel area...the sensor does not seal against the hole.

My engine/motor to you guys is a D4F 1.2 16V.
