Last Summer I did just spray the sensor to solve the problem and for 6 months it did cure it. Which at the very least meant I identified the problem as opposed to paying a garage to do so.

Last month the problem came back so it was time to replace the sensor. As when I posted previously about spraying the sensor in situ a fellow forum member correctly pointed out there was a small risk of the wd40 getting onto the fly wheel.

I am not convinced though that the wd40 penetrated to the sensor tip, as far as I know spraying the sensor and therefore its wiring loom which can become corroded may have been my problem.

On my Scenic auto the sensor is in one hell of an awkward place so that is why I went for the none replacement option first. Now though replaced sensor and its wiring loom and car starts first time every time.

Like i state though having diagnosed problem myself from these forums saved me a lot of money and potential wrong diagnoses by garages.

Today I called RAC , and the guy cleaned the sensor and put it back in 10 minutes , said its a common problem in 9 out of 10 non starters in Lagunas , he did advise me that cleaning it could be a short term fix and to get it replaced by a new sensor soon .

Thumbs up

we have a 2000 scenic, 1.4, was driving us crazy with an intermittent start problem. Every morning it would start no problem, but if we tried to start it after it had been run, even up to 2 hours later it would act the maggot. Usually had to wait up to 10 minutes before it would kick over.

Our local mechanic was puzzled, his diag equipment showed no faults .

Anyway, did a quick google and found this forum, had a look at this thread and gave it a go, I removed and cleaned the TDC with isopropanol cleaning fluid, and so far touch wood no problems

I know that cleaning it may be a short term fix but at least I'll know what part to replace if the problems return.

Thanks!
