New Menber

Hi All:
Just found this afternoon this forum that helped me a lot. I live in Ireland and I have a Renault Megane 1.4 petrol 2000, 66000 Mls manual. Last week I started to have the familiar symptoms regarding the TDC , and I said familiar because this the 3rd time I have problems with this part. Low revs. and motor stops in traffic lights, need more than 3 times to start it again, been warm. Maybe later I am unable to turn on the car in a cold start, etc

1st time with 55.400 Mls., Oct-06,. 116***8364;+vat in parts for the TDC and some bulbs, total almost 300***8364;. 2nd time, 58.400 Mls., 66***8364; + VAT + Labor = 194***8364;.

This time I will get the part and fix myself. I will try to post some photos and let you know how it goes.

Regards

P.D.: I have the spare part references from Renault, in case you need them.

This Morning TDC fails

Hi All:

This morning my car stops after 2-3 minutes running and it does not start again. Thanks God, I was inside my state and I was able to park it.

I called my local Renault dealer and asked me for 65 for the TDC . I did not asked to bring the car because I can not move it, and normally they give you a next week appointment. I need my car to go to work.

So plan B:

1. Go to my local car parts shop (Auto Care motor Parts). Got TDC sensor, Ratch, Extension bar and 10mm drive. All was 115

Now to do:

1.Wait until it stop rainning and wind here in Dublin. Mission imposible.

2. Fix the TDC . .Disconnect batt., take out air filter, take out old TCD, check it, put new TDC , cross fingers and start car.

I hope do not have to bring my car to Renault to clear codes.

I will keep you posted and photos.

Cheers

According to one renault tech I know the most common cause of TDC sensor failure isn't the sensor itself but its conections which are susceptable to corrosion thats why Renault have modified the connector but many people just make a straight soldered connection if they have the skills

Hi All:

Well it took me a while but... I fixed it!!!!

I can not download the pictures from the phone now, but the history was the following:

-I got the tools and the TDC sensor from my local parts shop. Sadly the new TDC sensor had the old connector, the black one that you see in the photos of this Thread, but my Megane had a blue one that do not mach. Why?. Because my car was on May on Renault, you can see in my previous post, and they use the blue TDC part and the blue loom.

So back to Autocare, they checked with Renault and they kindly explain me all the details. (Thanks Peter...). I got my money back, when to Renault Parts and I got the TDC , the one with he blue connector and the loom... FOR FREE!!! They honor the warranty of the parts on my last visit (Thanks Dermont and Renault Sandyford).

Back to my car, put the TDC sensor, put back air filter, deep breath and turn on the car. It took me 3-4 tries before it started fine. Not warning lights on the dahboard and a few miles to rechard the battery.

I am sorry for the long post.

Thanks to all the people that helped me with this Thread and the photos.

Cheers
