Re: TDC Sensor Replacement (with pictures!)

Just a quick note to add my thanks. I'm not terribly practical, but even I managed to extract and clean the TDC sensor on my X-reg 1.6 megane. Only took about 15 minutes.

Starting has been getting harder for a while now, but then it wouldn't fire at all since a few days ago. (I've never had the other reported symptom of cutting out while idling.) Fortunately, I don't rely on my car day-to-day, so could take a little time to research, and found this site. Couldn't believe that a quick spray with WD40 and a wipe to remove some iron filings would bring my car back to life. Thanks to all.

(Other half is probably not so pleased - she was probably hoping this would be the last straw and that I'd finally agree to buying something a bit newer !)

Re: TDC Sensor Replacement (with pictures!)

Here is a pic of the updated connector with crimps for the TDC sensor for my laguna 11 1.6.

As you can see the sensor is virtually the same.
Though the sensor and connector are sold seperate.....crafty renault

Re: TDC Sensor Replacement (with pictures!)

I just wanted to write and say "thank you" to this thread!

Every year we had a starting problem in the summer which the AA had repeatedly failed to diagnose. It went away in the winter.

We dreaded getting in the car on a hot day because often-times it wouldn't start for a good while, sometimes up to 20 minutes!

Frustrating because otherwise our scenic was a useful and fairly reliable (if beaten up and smelly) family beast of a car worth far more than its market value.

We came across this forum, tentatively opened up the car, and - with the help of a friendly neighbour - overcame our total ignorance of what we were going and managed to clean the sensor. It's been dandy ever since.

All it cost us was a bottle of wine enjoyably shared in the garden with said neighbour!

If the thread originator ever wants a drink on us, just drop me a line!

NB We weren't sure from reading the thread exactly what to clean with white spirit, but it seems it was the black "sensor" bit rather than the contacts itself.

Re: TDC Sensor Replacement (with pictures!)

Does anyone know how the TDC sensor is wired on a 1.9d fq8-630 engine - i want to test the cables (i cleaned mine up this morning) but cant find any diagrams for the wiring setup.

Does it have a common and signal wire back to the ECU like most of the other sensors?? Or is it refered to as another name apart from crankshaft or TDC sensor - im looking at the schematic from the haynes book.
