Re: TDC Sensor Replacement (with pictures!)

GRRRRRR.....my sensor needed cleaning again Monday.
Why the hell they'd have it above the clutch and not protected from dust I will never understand.
Easy job though, out, cleaned and refitted in half an hour.

Re: TDC Sensor Replacement (with pictures!)

Hello all
My story, short version, hopefully.
I own a scenic MK2 1.6 16V from 2003. Beside the usual cut-off in the cold mornings or after a longer break, few days ago a "check emission" error just pop up. Then after another day the car refused to start at all, no matter what. I have changed the coils , no luck. Cleaned the TDC sensor and bingo...
For the people interested I will add some pics from the operation. If you remove the battery tray is quite easy and accessible.
However this did not solved the cut-offs when cold.Beside changing the plugs (which I intend to do) I am out of ideas how to solve this. Also the "check emmision" error is still there? Do I need to go at the garage to have it deleted or it will disappear when the cause is solved? And speaking about diagnostic, maybe you know, where is the OBD2 connector on this model?
One last problem.Working around the battery I found this cable (see last pic). It is coming from the motor and going nowhere? Maybe you can help me to identify?
Many thanks upfront..
Paul

Re: TDC Sensor Replacement (with pictures!)

Hi All,

having the same starting problem, but there is no mention of any vans in this thread, I would be very grateful if anyone knew where the TDC sensor was on a Renault Trafic 1.9 dci 115.
I had to leave the van at home this morning and transfer all my tools into my Freelander!, not very convenient , thanks Darren

Re: TDC Sensor Replacement (with pictures!)

Darren you might have to start taking odds n sods out, I know for a fact with my 1.6 Megane the battery at the very least needed to come out, which I guess isn't too bad, providing you have the radio code, & don't mind resetting the windows.

Re: TDC Sensor Replacement (with pictures!)

Thanks Hondo,

I have the code so no problem, the battery is under the mats in the footwell of the passenger side so hopefully I wont need to get to that !, I'll bite the bullet and try and locate it Monday and fix it as it seems to be getting worse, thanks.
