Re: Keycard - Card broken/faulty - Dead Battery - Emergency Entry *With Pics*

Hi All,
I have two keycards, one works fine, but the other won't unlock the car, but it will start the car once placed in the slot. The problem is when I try to open the passenger door as described in this post only that door opens but also the alarm goes off. The only way to stop the alarm is to re lock the car with the other key. Am I doing something wrong or is there a problem? I would appriciate any advice.

First of all: Have you checked the battery in the card? The transponder chip for starting the engine does not require internal battery power, but the remote locking and unlocking buttons do.

Secondly: Do the buttons on the bad card feel the same as the buttons on the good card? If you don't have a positive click, then the switch may have come loose inside. This is a very common problem with the Renault key cards. Do a forum search for 'keycard repair' and you should turn up details of a few people offering repair services.

Thirdly: If the battery is good and the switches seem fine, it might be time to bite the bullet and buy a new card. This is something that's best done while you still have one working card. Though check with the key card repair people first, as some might do circuit as well as button repairs.

Re: Keycard - Card broken/faulty - Dead Battery - Emergency Entry *With Pics*

Hi. Tried the repair service as recomended, though they were unable to fix the card I was highly delighted with them as once they found it was beyond them they returned the card and gave me refund.
So I have had to Bite The Bullit and go to my dealer and order a new card. I tried 5 dealerships within a 20 mile radius the quotes went from 135 to over 200, it annoyes me that these dealers are under the same Renault banner and yet some of them are just ripping you off. ( They all said the new card came in at just over 100 but the extra cost came in the setting up.)
Anyhow thanks for the help
Cheers
