Re: Emergency key is BLANK

Just got my first Renault and loving it. However, it came with one keycard. More importantly, the emergency key is BLANK! and doesn't open the passenger door.

Went to a locksmith but they couldn't find the key on the system. Went to Renault who said it needed to be cut in France and I needed to order a whole new keycard with it for £193....!!!

Does this sound right? Also, is that 'Key code' sticker in the service book (number format ABC12345) the code for the emergency key? The locksmith tried that code (key was on their system but not the number). The only other numbers I have are an 'ignition key number' in the service booklet (format 12345678).

Cheers!

Personally, I'd source a second-hand lock & matching key and fit that instead - much cheaper.

What about deadlocks?

Hi all,

I need to gain entry to my car ASAP, but the keycard isn't working.

I also don't think I can use the "emergency key", because I always deadlock/"double lock" my car (press the lock button twice).

How can I get in, if the car is deadlocked?

Thanks,
Simon

It should still work with the key.

AFAIK deadlocking merely diables the function on unlocking the car from within. i.e. if you smash a window and reach in to unlock the car, you cannot open the door.

My Granada Scorpios & Scorpio all had deadlocks and could be opened with the key.

Thanks, you were right. It just required more force and jiggling than I'd been brave enough to use on the first attempt! I don't think the key had ever been used before (certainly not in the six years I've owned the car).

Now working on the electronics...

Thanks,
Simon
