Renault Scenic - Battery Access

My battery in my 98 Scenic died last night. Luckily we were out of the mountains and in a small town. Got a resonable deal for road side battery replacement however he had trouble to access the battery and hasnt completely secured the battery. We just wanted to get home late on a Sunday night but now I want to tidy it up.

I know the battery is under the passenger seat.

Is there a proper way to access the battery?
I have tried sliding fully forward, and fully back.

Do I need to remove the seat completely? or is there a tricky and cunning way of folding it out the way to access the battery.
