After seeing the following thread ( Renault Scenic 2 - Repairing High Level Brake Light
), and considering I actually had a 'broken' unit I thought I'd dismantle and open up my 'broken' 3rd brake light unit or high level brake light unit - whatever you want to call it.
This is the unit on the 2008 Renault Clio MK2 1.2 Va Va Vroom
that is sold here in South Africa - I'm sure it'll be the same on many other models.
See the below attached images (7 of them) - just so you guys can see the interior of the unit and I'll explain what I found incase the pictures aren't clear enough.
This is the unit in 3 pieces.
The middle piece is turned around to show you the locations of the 2 'clips' are on the middle piece. (I broke 1 of them while dismantling the unit)
As you can see, my unit was pretty rusted but I'm sure, if taken to the right person, probably fixable.
Here it is - you can detach more of it.
Yellow circle is I guess some sort of 'clip in' type setup - the yellow X shows you where another 'clip' is - remember, I broke one of mine.
Same picture, slightly clearer - Yellow circle is I guess some sort of 'clip in' type setup - the yellow X shows you where another 'clip' is - remember, I broke one of mine - probably could superglue the damn thing.
I managed to take it apart quite easily, no real force needed, but does need some care when taking it apart.
Hope this helps in some way - I did replace it with a brand new unit and it cost me R610 excluding VAT from DTM Renault Somerset West in South Africa and they installed it (labour) for R260 excluding VAT.
Oh, according to the box the part number on the box and unit is 7700410753
