On an 02 Clio, the
level shouldn't display at all unless it has already hit minimum. Normally, you have to press the trip reset button to display the level as a row of O's and dashes (the more O's, the more
' warning triggers (on ours at least) when the level is fractionally above the 'min' mark on the dipstick. If you've been driving it like that for a while, then it's probably below 'min' by now. You need to top it up as a matter of urgency before you do some damage.
The manual can be a bit confusing, and everyone has their own opinions about
. A 10w40
of a brand that you've heard of should do the trick (for all but the 2.0 and 3.0 V6 models) in the UK climate.
