I was under the assumption that the passenger's air bag disabling switch was on the side of the facia (only accessible with the door open).

On the Laguna you're absolutely right. There's a switch on the driver's door, next to the window switches, that activates the childproof locks and disables the electric window controls on the rear doors. On the later models, there's a separate control to disable the airbags, that's accessed with the passenger door open, but mine definitely doesn't have it.

But the Clio is different. It has a key slot in the passenger door to disable the airbag. You insert the ignition key, turn it to 'off' and remove the key. Once you've done this, the 'airbag disabled' warning light illuminates on the dash whenever you turn on the ignition. This seems to be how most manufacturers do it these days (Peugeot and Citroen appear to have had this facility for years) but I suppose Renault kind of shot themselves in the foot with the keycard: You need a system that (ideally) only the driver can enable or disable, and the silly keycard complicates matters somewhat.

I think it isn't switchable because it has Isofix mountings in the rear. Baby can face forward or backward.

I prefer the switch which was very simple in my C5 2.2 diesel sx auto. I wish I still had it.........
