Hi Garying , the pic was taken with the rear n/s of the car jacked up and the angle was pointing slightly forward and down between the rear wheel arch and the rear tyre. Hope this helps,.

This thread has made for interesting reading....I had a creaky r/o/s suspension going over bumps, not a knocking really, oh and it NEVER does it in the wet-most curious. However, seemed to stop all by itself. For the last two months, been using a works car to get about, but took my beloved Laguna out this weekend and the creak is well and truly back. Took it to have two new rear tyres fitted at kwik-fit and when the 13 year old "technician" jacked the car up, on the r/o/s axle next to a rubber gaiter/boot that has come away from the axle was this small piece of black hard rubber, about an inch long and 8mm thick and slightly curved, just sat there. It was exactly where the picture on this thread shows. Looked the other side and cannot see something like it there? The "tech" looked blank when I asked him (he was the suspension specialist too!). Anyway, any of your much more knowledgable folk out there know what this is, and also, you folk with the worn bushes, in what way was the handling of the car affected before/after?

This is a common part which tends to wear heavily ( especially on the heavier sport tourer )..

In my experience
before repair...

Apart from the creaking the car still handles well in the dry.

Mine passed it's MOT with a worn bush but not sure if this is because the suspension design at the rear of the Lag is relatively new or the tester did not look properly ( or both ) ??

BUT ( IMHO ) does not safely handle when cornering to the left in the wet or your rear os / ns wheels hit pot holes , bumps etc..

Can lead to back end skipping out suddenly..Could lead to an accident for the unsuspecting..
