An interesting one.
When entering the car the lights come on, ok so far, the card is inserted, the lights go off, ok so far, some leaves the car, the lights come on, ok so far, the door is closed, the lights stay on, not ok, .The only way now to turn off the lights is to stop the engine remove the card and then restart the engine.
Everything works fine untill untill any door is opened, has anyone any clues?
ps my speedo is now replaced at a cost of £465, £365 for the unit the rest fitting, which took no time at all, approx an hour, BY MY LOCAL RENAULT DEALER. LAGUNA by the way
I'm writing a windows program especially for RenaultForums that will completely simplify adding pictures to the forum. It will allow you just to right-click and copy images straight to the forum from Internet Explorer, any paint program etc. It will automatically resize large images as well. Once it's perfected I'll add a post to the feedback forum
Hi Lag2O,
Is your key card quite hot when you remove it after a drive?
Does this problem relate to the lights on the steering wheel (cruise-control switches)?
@ Vass - yes the card key is hot but I cannot givce advice on cruise control functions as I do not have them..It maybe that this piece of plastic and it's need to hit the microswitch on the card reader PCB has other hidden features.. Have you tried this fix yet ?
However something else I have very much noticed !!
Before this fix I had to hold in the start / stop button until the engine started.
Now I can literally tap the switch and it will hold the starter on until the engine fires up as it should do. Something I have spent ages trying to work out in the past and given up..
Haven't tried taking out the assembly as I'm not as dextrous as I used to be when I used to spend hours with my head under the dashboard and my legs sticking out of the window. I've looked at the pictures though.
I don't think my Lag is showing those particular symptoms though and I have casually emailed mine to the nice man who phoned me this morning to say they are giving me a new disk to enable the TMC. He may be able to point me in the right direction for a technical opinion.
I only tap my start button and it fires immediately. Just a tad perplexing when you want to stop your engine but can't find the button though. I don't think it's the bulb or a circuit board cos dats 2easy. Curious though, because I left my vendor's house and within 500 yards they went out (TBH, I thought I'd unwittingly switched them off) and have never come on again since... that's the cruise and the start/stop. The latter only lights before I start up.
I'll let you know if I get an opinion. By the way, I have found RCS most accommodationg apart from the first contact where I was dismissed out of hand. Everything fine now and I am happy enough with Renault not to rush off and get rid. It does help to reason though but then again not everyone has the patience when faced with lack of initiative.
I think I'll take off the 'yellow snow' bit from my signature soon!!!
Belle Cose amico and thanks for your post. I look forward to more of them.
if you mean that the light from your ignition button is not coming on then this is a usual thing for my laguna 2 and it involved going down to maplins and getting a replacement led simple as that
If like me you have managed to loose the all important bit of plastic then you can replace it by using the end of a small cable tie and a blob of strong glue (I used Araldite).
To do this you will need to insert the keycard which will support the cable tie until the glue has dried. Make sure that you wrap the keycard in some paper as shown in the picture so that any excess glue sticks to the paper and not the keycard. The cable tie will need to be glued with the bump upper most as shown in the picture. NOTE: This is the opposite way around to the original bit of plastic.
After the glue had dried I found that the card operated the switch but was rather stiff due to the bump on the end of the cable tie being a little too big compared to the original plastic piece. I melted the bump down a little using the tip of a soldering iron but you can improvise by using a flat bladed screwdriver heated up by a blowtorch or kitchen cooker. Sorry the second photo is not very clear but you should be able to make out that the bump is now flatter and wider.
So far so good, the repair is still going srtong (famous last words!)
on my one I just found a clear plastic cup as you see
on the photo below and glued it
touch wood never had any problems since
the plastic cup is very flexible and the spray adhesive never let it go
but this images helped me a lot
it is very easy procedure
Only found this site resentley, got the car on sat. and noticed the problem rightaway, followed the thred about fixing the switch in the card reader and workes great now. thanks to the pople here, just need to sortout micro switch in passanger door.
I had lost the plastic too, so found a strip of 1mm plastic around the house and then just doubled it up on the end but I think the cable tie idea is good with the tip melted down slightly. I only used superglue instead of araldite and it appears to be ok.
thanks for the info this site is saving me loads of money, done the aircon light display fix as well :d
 Well done that man you deserve a medal!! It makes a refreshing change to deal with straight talking, no nonsense people rather than the “you’ll have to bring it in and we’ll have a look at it” attitude.
Your step by step descriptions and photos worked a treat and saved me a load of money.
I couldn’t believe that such an annoying problem could be caused by such a simple thing.
Once again thank you very much it worked like a dream and has once and for all stopped annoying me.
In fact I don’t think I’m on my own if I admit to fixing it and sitting in the car, turning all the interior lights back on to door activation mode and just opening and closing the door a dozen or so times.
FANTASTIC !!!!
NB “TOP TIP”
The solution detailed on this post worked a treat but I came up with what I think (and used) was a ready made fix. The clip off a pen lid is exactly the right size and in most cases they even have the little bump on the end to push against the little micro switch as the original does.
Also it advises that thin card should be used when you have to put the key card into the slot to aid the glue drying (so the glue doesn’t stick to the key card) I used cling film instead as it is a lot thinner and enabled me to get a better position on of the pen lid clip once glued. Also if any of the glue did stick to the cling film it wouldn’t obstruct the key card slot.
i just dont have enough words to say thank you to this wonderfull man .. wow it works a treat just fixed it and wow now lights dim and car starts with touch of button.
took me 20 minutes to do this.
thank you so much mate.
Thanks very much for this fix, it worked like a charm. Although I still had the piece that had broken off I decided that it would be too short, so I went for the cable-tie approach. Very easy to do and has saved me a packet!
It is most likely the card reader that causes your problem with yoyr interior lights not dimming after closing the door. In Denmark (my country) a new card reader costs £450 ! I recenty got mine replaced because it was faulty.
Does your radio still work when the card is only half way in? and do you have to keep your finger on the start button to start the car? if so, one of the micro switches in the reader has snapped off as happened to me, I fixed it buy removing and opening the unit and the piece of plastic fell out, the only way to fix it is to glue the piece back in, but due to the position of it, you can't glue it as it was, so I glued it directly to the switch in it's original position and all works fine now, good luck with it and I hope this helps
I did managed to do all mentioned above, but only lights are OK, I still have to press start button until engine fire and not short press. Should I do anything else??
Thanks
Brilliant!!!...such an easy solution for such an ANNOYING problem, mine has been like this for 2 years. Renault wanted me to "replace all the light fittings, relays and possibly re-programme the ECU"...at a possible cost of "eh...maybe 4/500 euro bud"....cant believe the neck of them when this simple solution is known!!!
