Well I have lived with the same problem mate for far too long - Being dad's taxi at the weekends means I have to perform a few pick ups and drop offs taxi style - as the darkness of winter draws in - the fact that the interior lights do not dim drives me crazy - so if anyone can shed some light on the options i have given i would be utterly grateful - cheers in advance l20

Hello I found a solution that works..

The problem lies with a thin strip of plastic in the card reader. This strip of plastic pushes against a tiny microswitch on the pcb when the card is pushed into the card reader. Without it you will have no dimming lights.

As a temporary solution it is possible to super glue the part back in place.

Here's the how to with pictures + video dudes !!

Video test..

Remove ashtray assembly - video broadband 3.5mb approx

Remove card reader and locate block connector - video broadband 4.5mb approx

At this point my camera get low on juice so I opt for pictures..Ho hum !!

When removing the outer case do it over a piece of newspaper as you will need to catch the plastic piece that will fall out !!

Now ( carefully ) remove the PCB from the card hold assembly.

You should now have two seperate parts thus..

Aforementioned plastic thingy needs to be ( carefully ) superglued back into place..

Heres a picture showing the effective but perhaps temporary fix.

Pop everything back into the car and hey presto you will have a working acesorie position for the card key but more importantly the interior lights will self dim again !! Wey hey !!
