An interesting one.
When entering the car the lights come on, ok so far, the card is inserted, the lights go off, ok so far, some leaves the car, the lights come on, ok so far, the door is closed, the lights stay on, not ok, .The only way now to turn off the lights is to stop the engine remove the card and then restart the engine.
Everything works fine untill untill any door is opened, has anyone any clues?
ps my speedo is now replaced at a cost of £465, £365 for the unit the rest fitting, which took no time at all, approx an hour, BY MY LOCAL RENAULT DEALER. LAGUNA by the way

just a thought, but you could try cleaning up the earth pin which pops out thus earthing the interiour light... if it only happens when exiting the car from one particular door it could be the problem.Good luck

No more dealers at this time as i've had enough of them. Have not tried the dimmer option yet, will give it a try. Then reckon i'll have to live with it.
Have you had a costing on either option 1 and 3?
Cheers
FYI RTE has mentioned that he will look into this issue
Quote:- We've had a few of the 2001/2002 models with UCH problems.
The timer and dimmer control functions are integral within the unit and unfortunately a repair is not an option.....Give me a couple of days if thats ok...I'll check on our Technical Site (ACTIS) to see if there are any new developments in the issue.

I have a similar problem with my '99 Laguna. I identified the problem as the micro switch in the door lock. Sometimes when the door is opened and closed the light stays on because the micro switch sticks open thus the circuit is open and the interior light stays on. I was able to part remedy this with some simple WD40 application however, the problem has returned with a vengeance due to the cold weather up here. The switch is frozen open. I will have to take the lock out but it may have to wait until summer when the snow is gone.
I have also noticed because I have the light switched off all the time now a combination of this and the open cherry switch cause the immobiliser to cease operation. Sometimes the switch will close and all is operational again until the next time the switch freezes open.
I don't know if this helps as you car is a newer version but it is food for thought.
I was not referring to the conventional push and release buttons on the door frame that get switched on when the door is opened and off when closed. I am referring to tiny micro switch’s that are located inside each of the door locks. The only way to see these guys is to actually take the lock off from the inside of the door. It is a small black switch inside the mech with a arm and roller attached. These switches behave the same as the old push button switch’s, however they are connected to circuitry that provides a 20 second time delay after the door is closed. They are also linked somehow to the central locking. If you have a problem with courtesy lights on the Laguna chances are that you will have either central locking problems, immobiliser problems or both.
It's a good point but I feel nothing to do with the microswitches. As the Lag II has a display to tell you if any door is left open - so if the microswitch was faulty it would show up on the display as an open door..
To any RTE..
I have read that it is possible to programme the cars UCH as follows :-
Configuration of the lighting timer on closing of the
doors:
–
CF 015: with courtesy light timer
–
CF 016: without courtesy light timer
Is this so for the UK and would a reprogramme without coutesy light timer solve this problem of the lights not dimming..
Well I have lived with the same problem mate for far too long - Being dad's taxi at the weekends means I have to perform a few pick ups and drop offs taxi style - as the darkness of winter draws in - the fact that the interior lights do not dim drives me crazy - so if anyone can shed some light on the options i have given i would be utterly grateful - cheers in advance l20
The problem lies with a thin strip of plastic in the card reader. This strip of plastic pushes against a tiny microswitch on the pcb when the card is pushed into the card reader. Without it you will have no dimming lights.
As a temporary solution it is possible to super glue the part back in place.
At this point my camera get low on juice so I opt for pictures..Ho hum !!
When removing the outer case do it over a piece of newspaper as you will need to catch the plastic piece that will fall out !!
Now ( carefully ) remove the PCB from the card hold assembly.
You should now have two seperate parts thus..
Aforementioned plastic thingy needs to be ( carefully ) superglued back into place..
Heres a picture showing the effective but perhaps temporary fix.
Pop everything back into the car and hey presto you will have a working acesorie position for the card key but more importantly the interior lights will self dim again !! Wey hey !!
I cannot wait for the Haynes manual to come out for the Lag 11, I am sure, as they have done with other makes, Haynes will come up with solutions to repair jobs that Renault will charge a fortune to do.
Not as good as this one though.
If our member uncle sam reads this it might make it to the addendum page as he works for Haynes. Although I am not entirely sure that they could sanction super glue for repairs to a mech that needs the user to insert an very expensive card into it.
Addendum to the above how to :-
Please ensure to keep the super glue to a minimum - If possible use a super glue gel Maplins for £1.99 as opposed to a liquid as it provides a more secure bond / gap filling properties and is less likely to drip.
The card readers opening flap is just below the point you need to repair so please ensure no super glue drips down ont this mech.Leave the super glue to set for at least 30 mins before re-assembling the card reader.
