Renault Laguna II - Phase 1 - Engines - Turbo Reliability - 1.9 Dci Vs 2.2 Dci

I have noticed that only the 1.9DCI have problems with the turbo .
Has anyone else expericanced problems with the 2.2 turbo . When mine went in for some cosmentic work not so long ago at the local renault dealer, I asked him why there was so many problems with the DCI engine's going bang and was told it is down to the software within the ECU on the 1.9's. The 2.2 are much more reliable. I have no idea how true this is however looking back through the forums, the unfortunate people who have suffered the big bang, they own a 1.9 DCI 02 plate. I would like to see some feedback on this just out of interest.

Your dealer has got the software issue wrong..
It is the 2.2 that has an issue with the injection computer code potentially causing premature Turbo failure along with the cast iron EGR pipe bend delaminating and allowing fragments of pipe onto the EGR valve face. .. There are 2 "OTS"'s that cover these issues on specific engine numbers/vehicle types..

The 1.9DCi problems are on the whole due to the extended oil changes and incorrect oil type.. ie 10w40 (semi synthetic) being used instead of 5w40 (fully sythetic).... Especially on the Laguna II..

A question that would be on my mind if I had the choice. Would be interested to read other owners views if they have a 1.9 or 2.2 dci ??

We purchased a 1.9DCI Privilege in January on an 01 Y reg. Three weeks ago we paid 245 to have the back bushes replaced. Nearly two weeks ago the Turbo blew. Something about the intercooler which caused the Turbo to blow and when Renault were asked how much for this intercooler thingy he said yes we have plenty in, they're always going. My mechanic said himself that this is not right.
Cost to us so far 1100, Christmas basically cancelled (we have used all our savings - and I'm not kidding) the cost of humiliation contacting our debtors asking for help cos we can't meet the next payments. I am so upset about this. Both my parents have died so I can't ask them for help. My partner is really unhappy that it is causing me concern and have now been advised by doctor to double my anti-depressants.

To be honest, it is the biggest mistake of my life. I am losing everything cos I can't sell the car til it's fixed and to fix it is costing 1100. When I sell it, I have to repay the finance (2k). Deduct the finance and the cost of repairs from the proceeds of sale, I have lost big style.

I'm sorry but you asked for owners opinions and quite frankly, my opinion is because Renault know of the problem yet refuse to admit it, they are as bad as thieves. And those thieves have ruined my three young childrens Christmas.

As requested by third party, I have written to VOSA who have asked for owners to let them know of the problems arising from this issue and am looking into possible legal action

Mentioned before, that my 2.2 had its turbo replaced just before it was about to go, just after its third birthday (4 months and counting, fingers crossed)
My dealer and recovery man made my day when they said it was the 2.2 not the 1.9 that they had the problems with.
Apparently thats why they have the new 2.0 engine in place
