if it works at all when it is oiled it rules out (possibly) the reg so it must be something stopping the window moving so that the reg thinks it should be in safety mode all I can suggest is that you swap a reg from say the rear door mech the regs are clipped onto the motor with 4 plastic clips and should be interchangeable I have an old mech waiting to be fixed so I could e mail a couple of pics if you want.

window mech

Ide man Been thinking and remember when my passenger side mech packed in the wing mirror on that side also would'nt work (all linked via the CAN-BUs multiplex wiring). When the mech was changed the mirror worked.

Just a quickie: Shop4parts are listing Laguna II front window regulators at 92.75 + VAT - probably about on par with the best eBay deals. But if you buy from these guys, you're supporting a RenaultForums advertiser, and if you tell them where you found them, they'll probably be more inclined to keep on buying advertising space

I'm not sure how to provide a direct link, but the following search worked for me:

Make: Renault
Model: Laguna Mk2 (01-05)
Categories: Mirror/door components
Sub-category: Window regulators

Just checked the prices and they are cheaper in some items - worth a look especially the window mechs as they seem to be in short supply elsewhere.
