Smile Laguna II windows

I have had both of my front window lifts go within three days of each other, on my '52' Laguna. On the drivers one the cables had snapped due to rust, and on the passenger side the cable was badly rusted and fraying. I was quoted 250 per window for parts, and 190 labour at my 'friendly' Renault dealer.
I bought new mechanisms from Shop4Parts for 110 each all in. The new ones are fully sealed where the cables go onto the drum and motor, the whole assembly was sealed in a polythene bag, and all exposed parts were greased, so Renault have at least improved things. The drivers door took about 40 minutes to fit. The passenger door about 30 minutes - less electric switches, and I now knew what I was doing.
I have owned the car for two years, and the windows always squeaked when operated, apart from when I rained, this is obviously a warning sign of things to come!.

Just a quick question on this situation. There's clearly a design fault with the window regulators/mechanism. Has anyone been in contact with Renault to try to get them to pay for fitting what could be duff parts as they are grudgingly doing with the turbos?

Both my front windows have gone and on a 6 year old FSH car this simply cannot be 'wear and tear'. I've e-mailed Renault asking them to pay for the replacements, but don't hold out much hope, so will be using the guy recommended on e-bay.

Any views welcome!

you're lucky my both front window mechs failed after 4 years!! just poor engineering, makes you wonder how they manage in F1 cars, must have a lot of spares handy what! I wonder if anyone from Renault has actually read any of these threads, I sure would be severly embaressed if I worked for such a c**p company..

Well I'm not going to give up - many large firms expect people to go away after the first refusal but I'm going to keep trying because it's not right.

The components they have put in the car are clearly not fit for their purpose - my passenger side has barely been used as it was my company car before I (foolishly!) bought it.

I will keep the forum infomed.......
