Try another garage. There is no excuse these days for them just changing expensive units - if they make a swap and the fault is still there, they should put your original unit back and only make a small charge for labour - but basically they should not charge at all until they have found the fault. You didn't ask them to swap units over, you reported a fault and aksed them to diagnose it and fix it.

There are a couple of Tech notes for this problem..

The most common is either the throttle body is dirty and requires a clean..
Or the Body is faulty and will require replacement.. There is a modified Body available..

Yes I would recommend that anyone with a Renault, Especially a DCi runs on Fully Synthetic 5W40 oil ..

Engine idle problem on Laguna II

my laguna 1.6 seems to idle slightly erratically causing it to cut out occasionally, sometimes when slowing down for turns etc. On general tickover it seems to float between 800-900 rpm and it feels like it could cut out at anytime. I have recently had the cambelt and timing done and the car runs fine otherwise. Could this be a basic complaint which just needs tuning etc or a minor adjustment? Is it worth getting the car professionally tuned by hometune etc or would there be no benefit on the 1.6 laguna II engine? All help greatly appreciated!

i know its been a while since you asked for advice on idle/stalling problem, but anyway, i had the same prob. on my laguna 11. the problem is oil /dirt in the throttle body , caused by old oil thinning and when this happens it gets sucked into the throttle body which is apperently very sensative to any kind of dirty contamination. Cure is to remove throttle body and clean, this job will cost about 25 but make sure you have the oil and filter changed as well.
p.s. i also had diagnostics done which showed nothing.

Any one got any advice at all? I've read elsewhere that it may be something to do with the throttle body being dirty. If so, is this an expensive job to get done at all? Cheers
