Thumbs up Renault Laguna II - Phase 2 - Interiors - X1R in Laguna GT 2005

Hello everyone!

I will post the procedure with quite a few edits (mostly pics that now are still in the digicam) and changes since now I have a provisional installation. I could put my hands on some needed parts only yesterday.
Pics to be posted soon!

Install Space
This car comes with two suitable spaces for the X1R. The stock radio space and a convenience compartment just on top of it.

Stock Radio
This can be removed with universal removal tool. It's a Cabasse Tronic with CD player, no CD changer. There are only two removal holes so I bent the tools accordingly. Just push all the way in and the radio will follow when you pull the tools back.

There are three harnesses for four connectors. The yellow connector is for the dash display/steering wheel remote. Incartec wrote me that a new Pioneer interface for this car model will be ready soon, until then I will keep the dash display and the remote unplugged.

The two black ISOs are for speakers (higher, connected in parallel) and power (lower), The latter is easily recognized by the thick ground wire.

I bought a Renault to Pioneer ISO but it was wasted money. Just plug the car connectors into the AVIC one and you are fine.

Speed information is carried to the power connector in pin#1. You will find two wires in it, both need to be connected. I cannibalized a pin from the useless ISO I bought and plugged it into the unused AVIC ISO in pin#1. Then connected the wire to the pink wire from the nav unit. It works perfectly.

Nav Unit
I did not have the right torx tool at my disposal so I could not open the glove box cover (1 torx screw and four clips). It's oddly shaped and I think it might not be suitable for the nav unit. For the time being, I put the nav under the passenger seat. There is a metal plate that moves with the seat; I used strong velcro to fix it, it took a night to settle but it's pretty strong. That was a necessity dictated by a very small vertical space to work in, even with the seat completely lifted.

Cables can be run easily unde rthe side of the central console to the dash.

HU Unit
As said before, we have two spaces for the HU. If you want to swap the Cabasse you will need a dash adapter (part # 77 11 236 916, 9 €). I could get one only yesterday so I installed the HU in the upper space. I find it a good location for it's higher, drawback is the screen just in front of the ventilation fans. Use a flat screwdriver to pop the plastic compartment out.

Because of the cover lid, I did not tighten the cage so that the screen can pull the unit a little bit forward when it folds onto the cover.

The GPS antenna is now on the side of the backview mirror, where the windshield is covered by a checkered sticker. The antenna cable can be put easily into the roof liner and the pillar, all the way down to the bottom of the glove compartment. Reception is not the best but I noticed it tends to improve with speed

I did not connect the backshift wire so far, and maybe I won't since I started thinking the distance driven this way is usually negligible and below location error.

Still missing some tools but I will try an alternative HU/Nav unit as soon as I gather all the tools
