That's a lot higher than I'd have guessed.

The Espace (2.0T manual) may reach 30mpg on a Motorway only journey, where the computer was reset first, but around town with a combination of the missus driving to school/shop etc and me driving it at weekends like you occasionally drive the computer generally reads low 20's.

I would have thought that 30 was pretty good as an overall Ray but how is your driving made up, is it mainly round town or motorway?

The current reading which is mainly round town with a bit of motorway is 15.4

Actually though, that's not that much worse than the bus

Having the same engine and worries in the past try this before you worry yourself unecc...let me know how you get on...

Reset your mpg computer whilst on a level dual carriageway or motorway or a road..

Travel for 1.5 miles at a constant 60 mph in 5th gear..

What mpg does the car compute ?

Should be around 40 to 44 mpg ?

If that's the case nothing to worry about..

Around town ( at the moment ) I am only getting 25mpg due to the cold conditions ( heater and auto choke - short journeys )..

A quick oil , filter, plugs change may also improve things - use an expensive 10/40 oil to ensure better mpg and ths cost savings in the longer term..

Also can recomend an air filter upgrade ( k+n ) as this will improve your throttle response and not adversly effect the mpg or ecu ..

I've got a 2002 1.8 16v laguna and on average i get about 33mpg. i thought this was quite low as i had a 1.2 8v clio before which used very little fuel. although when i asked friends with 1.8 cars they are getting lower mpg than me.
