I think I found the same unit on
, though it was for the old Carminat system as opposed to the current one. No doubt they'll come up with something for the new one soon enough, but I doubt that the old unit would be compatible. For what it's worth, the old one needed an NTSC composite video input, so you'd need a player that switched between NTSC and PAL. It also left it up to the installer to work out how to route the audio.
As for the car, I'm made up with mine apart from the engine, though I'll come to that later. It's a factory standard spec Initiale dCi 130, apart from taking the no-cost option of light leather interior trim.
I can't think of anywhere else where you'd get the same toys for the money (though I see Ford are plugging 'voice control' on the Focus and even the Fiesta now.) The MP3 player works well enough, though I struggle to remember what's on each disc. The bluetooth phone interface is good too, though I wish it would pair the phone to the keycard as it does with the seat and mirror positions. Switching phones is not a major headache as long as the currently paired phone is not in range - you just press the Tel button and it'll look for other paired devices. But if you have two mobiles and want to switch between them while both are turned on, you've got to muck around through loads of menus to get it to switch.
The voice activation thing is a bit hit and miss. Certain things (like 'voice guidance on/off') seem to work first time every time. Other things (like 'destination home') seem to produce the wrong results at least three out of every four attempts.
I've found myself fighting with the electronic parking brake on a couple of occasions. It's at its worst if you decide to apply the handbrake (e.g. at a red light) and then change your mind before it's had a chance to fully apply (i.e. the lights change.) It can be a real pain when trying to turn right at traffic lights on a slight hill-start. Apart from that, it works like a dream.
I find the dCi 130 noticeably sluggish when compared to the previous 140bhp
petrol. If I'd been aware of the new 2.0 150bhp diesel engine, I might well have held out for that.
