I was shocked at the computer average on my sisters car. It showed 32 mpg. Admittedly lots of town work, but even so I thought that was sh1te for a diesel, especially as hers is the 85kw one that doesn't pull the skin of a rice pudding! My wife used to have a 1.8 petrol laguna 1, this was better. A friend has a similar shock with his Alfa 156, only getting late/mid 30's on a run. On both cars however I noticed that they were really sluggish to get up to temperature. The Alfa thermostat has been duly changed, and initial reports seem good so far (3-4 mpg increase!)- will ned to see how it shapes up over a couple of weeks.
Looking at other forums, it seems the problem of spread sof mpgs is not just on these cars. I was looking to get an x-type diesel, on there 'reported' figures vary from low 30's to 50's. Think I'll go for a V6 petrol and do an lpg conversion......

I've now had my 2004 1.9 dci 120 laguna (75k on clock) for two months now and on my work journey which is 20 mile round trip with about 12 of that going through hills, I get 36.2mpg. when I reset it and go on a run that dosen't include the hills I get between 50 and 55 mpg and so all in all I am really pleased with the fuel economy

Average MPG

I have a 2.2dci and average around 37/38, on a long run last year to the South of France (4 up and boot crammed) I managed to get over 40mpg, dealer did inform me not to expect any more!

I have had my car for two weeks now, it has 86 000 mile on the clock. I have done three trips from London to Southampton in the last two weeks. The service light on the car had also come on, so I gather the feul consuption couldn't have been that great I was averaging between 38 miles to the Gallon.

I have sent the car in for a service, the Mechanic told me I needed new injectors so the consumption would have been down.

I have owned two other diesels in the past, and as far as consumption goes I cannot coplain about 38 miles to the gallon considering the size of the Lagunas.

You should be getting a lot more than that - I get better than that on average out of my positively archaic, mechanically injected 2.2D. I believe you should be looking at 42+MPG average and over 50 on the motorway with a 1.9dCi...
