Re: Renault Laguna II - Phase 1 - Engines - Average MPG from 1.9 DCi Engine

I'm getting about 36 - 42mpg on a 1.9dCi but when 10 000 on the clock I got 42mpg or above regularly. I put this down to an old turbo possibly?

Round town I'm getting 40 mpg, at a steady 75mph on a motorway I'm getting 53 mpg. This is in a 55 plate 1.9 dci

Cheers Jamie

Re: Renault Laguna II - Phase 1 - Engines - Average MPG from 1.9 DCi Engine

My Megane Classic Expression + 1.9 DCI lies to me.
I continually under-estimates the fuel consumption by at least 10%.

I commute almost 100% on the motorway about 90 miles a day.
In summer the trip computer claims up to 55 mpg if I cruise around 65 mph.
In winter, same driving style provides 43 mpg accoring to the comp.

In reality - at the pump when filling up - I may see 45 mpg in summer and 40 mpg in winter.
When I compare the trip computer's consumtion in gallons to actual litres bought I am 10% to 15% out all the time.

A shade under 40mpg around the doors. Mid 50s on a motorway run.

Happy enough with that.

Re: Renault Laguna II - Phase 1 - Engines - Average MPG from 1.9 DCi Engine

I have the 2.0 dci, But, I have found that if you keep at a constant speed (using cruise control if you have it) and always keep the revs bang on (or as near as possible to) 2k, you will get MUCH better efficiency than when you keep the revs low. The idea is that 'normal' cars (generally) are designed to be at optimum efficiency when doing about 55-60mph when in 5th gear, so your engine is working less hard in that zone. You can find your engine's most efficient revs to run at by trying to knock it out of gear (without touching the clutch) at various revs/speeds and finding the point where there is very little resistance. Its the same principal as when you find the point where you dont need to engage the clutch to put it into gear by hovering the revs at the right place, but less tricky to get right. When you have found the optimum revs, use cruise control and good gear change discipline to keep your revs at that level and you should see a dramatic rise in fuel efficiency (more so on longer runs than town and city driving where theres lots of stopping and starting though).
