always get about 52.3 mpg out of my 120bhp tourer to work and back
with onset of winter this has "plummeted" he he ,to about 48.3
getting about 700 miles from fill up to warning light then do another 50 miles and re-fill her ,always around 750 miles between tank fills!!!

interestingly when i had a xantia td estate it always returned about 49 mpg on same trips to work and driving style BUT when on the ONLY time i filled up at TESCO the next tank- full LOST about 60 MILES and the car lost nearly all the bit power it had (felt almost as if the breaks were binding
thougt it was a good idea saving 2p a litre but obviously it wasn,t
i am getting sligtly better mpg from LAG over xantia but the LAG feels like its got TWICE the performance

Steve1 - the VW TDI engines are noted for being particularly frugal. I doubt whether you'd get the same economy from a Renault or Peugeot/Citroen than you can get from a VW Golf. That's one of the reasons that I now run round in a Ford Galaxy TDI - because it has a VW PD TDI diesel engine under the bonnet. Doesn't stop me wishing that I could have an Espace V6 diesel though !

I remember Big Regie (Espace 1.9dCi) used to return 40mpg all day every day on the run back and forth to Manchester, even though most of it was stop start down the M6, M62, M60. On a run down to Bournemouth (average speed according to the trip computer 68mph) he returned well in excess of 50mpg.
When Mrs Scouse took him over to run around town she managed to drop the average to about 32-33.

Since I bought the bus the figure would probably be in the mid to high 40's and that's with a bit of everything thrown in. Certainly a lot better than my old 1.8 Laguna.

I think I have CDO. It's like OCD, but with ALL THE LETTERS IN THE RIGHT ORDER

Dont know how true my mpg counter is but at 65 mph my car averages 42 mpg that was on the m62 over a 30 mile stretch . On a mixed run I get 34 mpg .
I dont think thats bad for a petrol engine
