Re: Renault Laguna II - Phase 1 - Engines - Average MPG from 1.9 DCi Engine

Mine is not as good as I thought it might be. In fact, it's crap. I'm only getting 500 miles from a full tank which works out at 33-36 mpg - my 318i does better. The car runs and goes fine, EGR valve clean and I very rarely go above 2500 rpm and drive the car with a very light foot doing 1500-2000 rpm around town.
It's not worth using it - might as well drive the old BMW and buy cheaper fuel!

Re: Renault Laguna II - Phase 1 - Engines - Average MPG from 1.9 DCi Engine

With any diesel engine the best way to improve fuel economy is to always run in the highest gear possible ie use top gear even around town making full use of the high torque a diesel engine produces, and avoid harsh braking and traveling at excessive speed on motorways as the difference over a journey between 70 and 80 only amounts to a few minutes.
May be I'm teaching "your granny to suck eggs" but best economy is greatly influenced by driver skill - experience

My issue isn't with driving style. I have drove the same journey and in the same manner this past 2 years in 3 different 1.9 Lagunas and never had less tyhan 47mpg until this one which I'm getting 40 -41mpg

Re: Renault Laguna II - Phase 1 - Engines - Average MPG from 1.9 DCi Engine

Well, there has been a marginal improvement. I replaced the rather dirty air filter and I got 120 miles for 20 quid's worth (3 gallons) which equates to 40 mpg. That's just about acceptable if hardly earth shattering. Considering how carefully I drive it, I'd still be expecting 45 to 50.
On the plus side, I'm certainly getting used to the very good ride and comfy seats!

I get around 31 to the gallon, although I travel about 2 miles (of hills) a day, with an occasional blast out of town. On the rare occasion I take it on a motorway, I average about 42 mpg.
