For my ten peneth worth - It may be due to the aircon system needs re-gassing - possible leak somewhere in the system.
One aircon engineer I know in MK (you probably know him as well L20 - CoolAir) bought a new Honda Accord and - as is his job - checked the aircon system after 3 months and found that the car had lost 30% of it's gas !

I get the buzz during acceleration too, at between 3000 and 3500 RPM, but I never thought it would be the air conditioning that did it,
even though I'm fully aware that air conditioning units always steal some horsepower.
I thought it was all down to the DPO gearbox that I have.

Next time I go cruising with my homiez, we'll test this out on the motorway, see if it happens when AC is disabled or not.
The noise is distinguishable as long as you don't play any obscure tune that uses this particular noise (I know Eminem has one such tune) on the stereo at the same time.

Re: Renault Laguna II - Phase 1 - Heating and Cooling - Climate Control affects accel

I have just had what I think is a catastrophic failure of my aircon compressor.
Smoke from burning rubber was comeing out of the engine bay so I stopped the engine immediately to investigate.
Something was locking up the auxillary belt causing it to slip on the crank pulley, wether the aircon was on or not. I cut the damaged belt off which allowed me to get the car home without power steering ( extremely hard ).
All of the pulleys, alternator and power steering pump spin freely so the only thing left is the aircon pump.
Can anyone tell me if they have experienced this and what could cause the pump to lock up

Many thanks

Probably either the compressor bearing has seized or alternatively the compressor clutch.
