Spark plugs

I poke to the mechanic at my local garage tonight while filling my Discovery uo with LPG.
The have been maintaining a fleet of 6 laguna II's. They have had lots of misfire/rough idle problems.

The majority of times they were caused by coils , (one car has had 12 replacements) frequently new plugs were needed as well - the faulty coils seem to damage the plugs. They also recommend replacing all the coils - one weak coil seems to reduce the effectiveness of all of them.

My car is fitted with Bosch plugs, with the 3 electrodes. These are not recommended. They recommend Equiem RFC50LZ2E or NGK BKR6EZ. NGK are usually easier to obtain.

So next step is a new set off plugs. Then possibly 3 more coils .

i started having problems last year with it flagging up a fuel injection system fault ,stalling and surging like form idle to 3000 revs with the accelerator not working,so.... went to the dealers and after much money like 600 they checked the full wiring harness full diagnostics which didnt have any fault codes in cleaned the Throttle body replaced the spark plugs and fine nice n bonnie .................till yesterday

so i had the aa tow me to my dealers and now im waiting for the phone call on monday for the damage........its just a nightmare im expecting they will want to replace the throttle bdy and accelerator potentiometers

that said when its fine it runs like a dream this problem seems intermitant and like the other post it clears itself if u switch off for say 10 mins

I suffered the same intermittent faults until I started using injector cleaner fluid at regular intervals. I too went to a main dealer who spent all day with no result checking diagnostics etc. they could only make expensive suggestions about changing bits but with no guarantees. After using the injector cleaner the engine now behaves itself.

Hi all,

I'm probably on the wrong thread here but I can't find anything similar to the problem I have so I hope you won't mind me sticking it in here.

I have a Laguna '51 Sports Tourer 1.8 and it's been very good up to now (18 months ownership). Just recently when starting it will turn over the engine but will not fire up. This happens about one start in six. After it shuts itself down from turning the engine over, it might start first push after, but yesterday it went through the second lot of 'bumps' without starting. It started on the third press of the button. This usually occurs when teh engine is reasonably warm. Usually starts first time when cold.

I had it serviced a few weeks ago with new plugs and air filter etc but it hasn't cured the problem,

Does anyone know or can advise on what it may be?

Many thanks.

Hi barry,

Could be a Top Dead Centre issue. Certainly sounds it to me, what made me think that was you saying it would start first time when the engine is cold.

Do a search on the Forum for TDC or take a look in the knowledge base section, there is a post in there with picces showing how to fix. You can either clean the TDC sensor or buy a new one. Expect to pay about 30ish from Renault.

Hope you get it sorted.
