I wonder if any wise person can help me with another problem!!!!
At night I have no illumination on the climate display and assume there should be. Is this an easy fix and if so can somebody advised as to how.
Many thanks

I just want to say a huge thank you as well to this site!
My climate control light is back working, and it only took 20 minutes. I'd taken the air con unit out before so was happy doing that but it is was the first time I have ever soldered anything in my life!
No more having to turn the interior light on at night to see what temperature I've set!
Hi Reedes had this prob on my Lag 2 its the resistor at the top right hand side of the circuit board needs resoldering. there is a guy on Ebay who for 99pence will send you drawings and instructions on how to do it takes about half hour. Just punch in Renault Laguna Climate Control and it will bring it up.
Hope this helps
Pete.
I just wanted to say, Thank You to all the people that have helped diagnose and provide solutions to this problem. Following the instructions on how to remove the unit and using the soldering iron to redo the joint, I now have a nicely lit Climate Control unit. What a great forum this is.
Mine didn't even look damaged - I nearly didn't do it because of that. But as soon as it was plugged back in - it lit up! Thank goodness I went ahead.
Just on the off chance someone reads this and is kind enough to reply - the white strip of plastic fell out before I noticed which way round it went (rough or smooth) - don't suppose anyone knows? Or even if it matters?
I know I may be late with this answer but it may help someone. I had the same problem with mine and I hate things that don't work so I persevered until I solved it. The problem is on the circuit board where there is a small black resistor about 3mm by 2mm which is in the feed to the row of led's, I assume it limits the voltage to the led's. It would seem that it is not really man enough for the job and overheats to such an extent that it becomes desoldered, although you cannot see that is so even with a magnifying glass.
I found out by dismantling the unit down to the pcb then plugging it back into the loom and switching it on, poke the resistor gently with something non metallic (cocktail stick) and the leds should light. The resistor is just to the right and below the last led on the right. I then just put a good blob of solder on each end of the resistor and its been fine for months.
Hope this helps someone.
Best of luck

Hi Everyone. i realise the original thread is fairly old now but the link to the pics is no longer valid. Can anyone help with the pics as i now have to do some soldering myself, I think!! pikeybob
Thanks

Instructions for repairing lighting behind climate display, read before commencing.
1. Remove ash tray. Ensure card is not in the card reader.
2. Pull out card reader it is only held in place with clips.
3. Pull out bottom of climate display, again it is only held in with clips.
4. Remove the 3 wiring plugs from the back of the unit, the top 2 connectors have lever clips pull these across the plugs as far as they will go to release the bottom one has a small catch push this in to release.
5. Now remove the coloured cover from the front, this is done by releasing the clips top and bottom with a knife or small screwdriver.
6. Now remove the inner front cover, again by releasing the clips the 2 large buttons will probably fall out. Be careful
with the glass screen as this is quit delicate.
7. Look at the top right hand of the printed circuit board you will see the resistor highlighted in the picture.
8. With a soldering iron re-solder both ends of the resistor, be careful not to leave the iron on for too long, it is also easier if a small amount of solder is applied to the tip of the iron prior to soldering the resistor.
9. Now rebuild the unit, make sure the plastic strip is in place and the glass display is lined up correctly before fitting inner cover, don’t forget to fit the large buttons.
10. Re-fit coloured outer cover and re-fit to car, make sure that the wiring plugs are correctly fitted, Fit the top part of the display into the dash and then push the clips into place at the bottom.
I gave all of the resistors servicing the LED array the solder treatment. These are very small and care should be taken not to over heat these components or the PCB.
Even to a non-mechanical, non-techinical person like myself, this seems a relatively straightforward "fix" based on the posts on here. I think I will invest in a soldering iron and give it a go!
Finally got round to doing this last night. First time i have soldered anything. Hardest part was stopping my hands from shaking!LOL Nearly made an a**e of it though. The resistor stuck to the soldering iron and came off the board! In my haste to get it off the the tip, it fell and i spent 10 mins finding it! Resoldered back on, made sure it was held in place as i soldered. Now works a treat. Thanks to the guys who wrote up the guides!
i followed a link from the FAQ section for laguna
i have just done my 2002 laguna climate control backlight by following the instructions
dry joint on the resistor #101
everything ok and can see in the dark now
Hi all. Been following the thread on the soldering of the pcb on the climate control unit and have surpassed myself in being able to solder and successfully regain the backlight. Thanks to all for the threads and the hard work that obviously goes into the upkeep of this site.
Just wanted to say that after reding this thread yesterday I went straight home. Fired up the soldering iron and fixed illumination within 20mins. I couldn't believe how simple it was and saved me £120 getting an auto electrician to look at it. Well done to all that have contributed to the thread and most of all thankyou.
I have some pics and a word doc explaining how to repair the troublesome backlight. Hope this helps. I originally found these on this site so I wont take any credit for them.
I've never soldered anything in my life, but thought i'd give it a go! Honestly mate it's a 5 minute job, give it a go. Just be careful the resistor doesn't stick to the soldering iron and come off! (like it did with me, lol)
Jobs a good un!
Hi everyone
This site just gets better and better. Thanks to all the clever people on here i have just repaired my pcb and i have light for the first time. I just followed the instructions and the photos and Bobs ya auntie.
Thanks to you all.

Just want to say thanks a lot to all the members' contribution to this thread.
My Vel Satis has this problem (same panel as the Laguna). I've had the car for 3 months and just learned to live with no climate display at night. However, I came across this thread today and decided to give it a go - I HAVE A BRIGHT WHITE ILLUMINATED SCREEN NOW!
Took me around 40 mins for the whole thing - the fiddly bit is actually getting at the climate control panel in the Vel Satis. And yes - a drop of solder on resistor 101 was the solution.
If any Vel Satis owners need info on how to get access to it just let me know - I wouldn't have attempted it without this thread.
