I don't have much information, except that it was one of those "Everyone's got wind that there's a new model coming out, but we're still making the old ones... How the hell do we sell them?" kind of things. So they did the usual trick and bunged on a whole load of extras (metallic paint, alloys, climate, part leather with the option of full) and flogged them for around the price of the standard, lower spec model.

Reviews tend to suggest that they're less than reliable, making me think that the problems with the early L2 were probably just symptomatic of Renault's slump to an all-time low in build quality at the time. The car was introduced some time in 2000, but according to the following link, they proved unsaleable after the Paris Concorde crash, so they dumped the remaining right-hand drive ones onto the Irish fleet market.

I agree entirely but....

that was then...

but this is now....

& I should imagine they would make an excellent 2nd hand buy....

They were ( as far as I know ) the last of the old style Laguna, they had superior spec & equipment levels & they had ironed out most if not all of the design flaws..

Quite often it makes sense to buy the last of a particular model range for this very reason ( oh & the price )..

Anyhow if anyone out there knows anymore about these feel free to post your comments here..

hi all,

have jus seen a nice looking one of these on the auto trader website (here in ireland) - a year 2000 1.6 with 117k and all the spec for only 2,300 (1572), which is exceptionally cheap considering most 2000 lagunas sell for 5000-6000 (euro - list price for 1.6 Authentique nowadays is 25,000 euro).

I'm actually thinkin about buying something like this. whatever i buy, it will be my first car, but i want something safe and solid (and preferably stylish & well equipped) but without a big price tag!

what would you think of something like one of these? it's got ABS, air bags, all the rest of it, and it's cheap. i probably won;t buy yet, but would a similar 2000 laguna 1.6 be a good investment? i've got a friend who's a mechanic and had 2 meganes, so i'd get him to give it a good going over first.

thanks in advance for any advice! bye

I think you may find a 1.6 Guna a bit under powered

Its a big car for a 1.6 engine IMHO
