Laguna II SERVICE light

When i start my 2002 Renault Laguna Privilege 2.0 IDE the display in the centre of the dashboard shows the Renault logo.

This will be displayed until i press the brake pedal when it changes to SERVICE.

The car was serviced about 9000 miles ago and the service interval was reset to 18000 miles - it currently shows about 9000 miles till service is needed.

There are no other warning lights displayed

Any ideas - before i go and spend a fortune at a renault dealer in Cambridge.

When the service light is showing, what happens when you press the talking computer button. You know, the one that says " welcome, please wait while the computers checks systems for you" when there is nothing wrong with the car and you press it for curiositys sake, like me .

If there is a fault present that it will tell you about (which are a lot), it should tell you again if you press this button.

As said above, check oil water and power steering levels and also check for punctures / low pressure in tyres. One other thing to check is the air bag pre-tensior wires under the seats. Check the connectors to these are nice and tight. They have a tendancy to move apart if the seats are moved backwards and forwards alot.

Have you had the car long ?
