Thanks IDE man. Each time this car as been in for a service im told the plugs don't get changed on this model till 54,000

This sounds crazy to me but will ring them and ask them to change the plugs asap. Also i will get them to flush the engine and change air filter.

I finish work at 3 am so now and again i get the urge to open her up down the M65 when i see no cars around.

idle valve

The idle valve is to the rear of the engine on the left hand side .

I believe sombody has posted pic where it is located on the ide engine as well .

If you are not mechanicaly minded it is an easy job but for the sake of paying 80 to a local garage they will most likley clean all your major sensors for you without you having to hassle .

hope this helps ide man

Ref my post on page 4. The fault now happens every time the car is idling and also when I switch on(after a run) happened 5 times today twice when parked 3 times when stopped in traffic. It's driving me nuts!! Went to a Ren dealer enroute home and he advised full diagnostic (97) before they coudl tell what the problem is I quoted the comments here about the TDC sensor but he didn't committ himself. Can someone point out where the sensor is and where any of the others involved may be. Are there any pics in the knowledge base as the Diologys manual is useless (there is no mention in the section Technical Note 3630 Special notes for Lag II with F5R engine, or am I not looking in the right place?).

Plot thickens!! Had car in today at main dealer who has stated that the problem can be 2 things. What was originally a plug question has now developed into Injector/Valve problem. Fault message "Injection System Faulty" and ESP faulty(why? they can't be related surely)
Tech says solution (maybe??) change injector rail (1100 !!!)
or if that doesn't fix take head off and check valves (700 labour plus bits). Still can't see why the car goes like stink gives 30 mpg and accelerates as if the engine is fine. Perhaps I should move this to another thread or start a new one. Anyone out there who can shed some light?
