All I know is what I was told - i.e. that on most occasions, the computer had stored a fault with no.2 injector going open circuit. Dealer policy (under warranty) is apparently not to replace the faulty component unless it can be shown as faulty on test, and the fault would invariably go away when the car was booked in to be looked at.
Eventually, they replaced the injector anyway (and left me with fuel spraying out of the fuel rail, but that's a different story.) Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) I didn't get to keep the car for long enough to be able to decide whether or not they'd fixed it.
I'm guessing from the fact that they want to replace the rail that yours hasn't stored any faults related to a specific injector. It sounds like you may have similar symptoms to my old car (though mine normally ran and idled fine) but I think the underlying cause may be different.
