Thumbs down Renault Laguna II - Phase 1 - Electronics - Permanent horn !

Hello again,

OK I drove through a very deep puddle ( near side ) today..

Car was fine until about 5 mins after returning home ( car was deadlocked and switched off ) the twin horns blasted out the estate I live on..

I tried reseting the locks with the card key assuming it was an alarm fault but still the horns continued to blow..At approx 98Db !!

I got in the car and inserted the card key and the horns momentarily stopped as the starter motor kicked in ( presumably the car diverts main electrical power to get the engine turning over )

Anyhow I drove the car to the nearest industrial park ( to avoid ****ing off anyone ) to see if I could suss out this bizarre fault.

I removed the interior fuse 15amp for the horn but still it kept on...

Removing one of the 30amp fuses under the bonnet did sucesfully prevent further damage to my ear drums..

Me finks this is another water ingress problem but questions are..

Horn is located behind nearside headlamp ( anyone got to it or worked on it ? looking for advice here chaps )..

Would there be any other reason why the horns did this !!

Yours disgruntled

The water probably shorted the contacts out. You may well find that when it dries out it will be ok. After all water is a very good conductor of electricity!
Still probably worth a squirt or two of wd40 or similar tho just to clean contacts and remove any remaining moisture.

I went through a puddle earlier this week and my horn is weak and raspy. A new horn at 75 is the fix for me sadly.

Well the drying out has been accomplished and no need for any further work for the moment. I will post a picture of the "under bonnet" fuse box to show exactly which fuse to remove in the event of a constant horn for fellow Laguna II owners in the near future..

It may come in handy ( oh god what did I just say )

Ho hum..

The Horn

Hi - any chance of a pic of that fuse, please ? My horn has stopped working, it's not the fuse in the main box, so either it's the fuse to which you refer, a wire has come off, or the horn's knick-knacked ! Thanks for telling me where it is, I looked all over to no avail.
Also, chaps, is there a fusebox diagram available, so I don't have to rely on the miniscule numbers next to each fuse, while counting them down in the owners manual ?
Thanks !
