I agree with you entirely! Always look at the space behind the car behind you!? If there is one its the safer option!
Going on from the above, i experienced it first hand this morning on the way to work when i nearly ended up in the back seat of a Ford Fiesta. I use a short linkway to get to work, and about half a mile from the end there is a slip road entrance onto the linkway.
Most mornings people are quite sensible, but today some silly bloody woman driver (yet again!) pulled straight into the fast lane as she saw a gap. I was travelling at almost 60mph and hit my brakes so hard my ABS came on. Are people so stupid not to think 'oh hang on she's going a bit fast, but theres a bloody big gap behind her - after all its half a mile away where I need to be in the right lane!!!!'
Not a good start to an otherwise pleasant Friday (payday!) morning
