I have a Renault Extra 1.9 Diesel Van which I wish to work on which will require me to remove the cam belt, but don't have a locking kit. What does a locking kit involve? Can you make one or is it just a job for a garage?
The locking kit is fairly rudimetry and can be made up easily at home!
It consists of rods which push into holes in the pulleys, and shortened drill bits of the correct diameter can be used.
Is it a 1.6 or 1.9 Diesel?.If you let me know,I might be able to give you some more details.....
It's a 1.9D,and according to my information there is only one locking pin, which is for the crankshaft. You have to line marks up on the belt with arrows on the sprockets to time the pump and cam up.
To be honest, you don't have to lock the crank as long as you have the arrow on it in the right place.I'll PM you some more details.....
