Help Help Help Please

Hi there I have a 2002 1.9dci Renault Laguna 54k miles on the clock. I put the car in for a service this morning and they phoned me to tell me the intercooler was burst!! (deep joy)
They quoted me 300 to fit a new one and I asked the sevice manager if the intercooler was covered by the "Yellow OTS Scheme" He did a double take and asked me where I heard about the OTS scheme. He said no it would not be because I have not had the car from new. The girl at the service dep. said she would phone customer services who said they would pay 20% of the cost of the intercooler.
Can anyone tell me if this sounds fair and okay. Any help greatly apreciated. Thanks Steve D
