Don't let them fob you off because you're not the original owner. The Yellow OTS contribution is based purely on age, mileage and correct servicing (either by Renault or a VAT registered garage using official Renault parts, though you'll probably need receipts.) Whether your the first owner or the seventeenth is irrelevant.
Your mileage is well within the limits, and I think the age of the car is too. If the servicing meets their requirements, then you should be on course for a major contribution towards the cost of the repair.
If I were you, I'd cut the dealer out of the loop for now and get on the phone directly to
Renault Customer Services
. In your position, I'd be pushing for a new
valve and pipework, with
making at least an 80% contribution.
