petrol gives off a flammable vapour thats heavier than air...unless i'm mistaken should be thouroughly sealed..and only take a purpose built cannister.
diesel is not so dangerous as the vapours are non-flammable but would still advise a tight seal..
in both cases do not overfill containers..allow approx 2" gap.
ony take if you expect to take a long journey and ensure containers are securely placed ..ie not rolling about.
