Cool Renault Laguna Mk1 Rear Shock Absorber Technical Question?

Hi fellow Renault enthusiasts,

I recently fitted 2 new rear shock absorbers to my Laguna estate. After a very, very.... VERY, long time and much hammering and blow torching later i finally fitted the new ones. Car drives great now, except for one snag.
The ride height of the car is now much lower than before. Even when no one is in the car it looks as if i've got 2 or 3 passengers in the car, and as i regularly take heavy loads with my work it goes really low to the ground.
Has anyone had similar problems? If so does anyone know why this has happened?
I've checked that the 'Monroe Original' shocks are the correct ones, and they are.
