i did some investigateing last night and it turned out to be a dodgey power connection to the motor - it works but only when you jimmy the wire around a bit till it gets connected.
So i took it down to the local garage and it turns out that a new windscreen wiper motor for the renault megan fidji is the princly sum of £177 plus the vat andf thats without fitting it!
now i ask you - is this clearly an over the barrel situation or what??
It sounds like you need to take the motor apart clean it and put together again using new contact-brushes, (if it works when you jiggle it, both stator and rotor are fine). Happened to me on a Golf once. The brushes wear down and make a poor contact. It shouldn't be a big job, but do try to do it carefully and try and source the brushes beforehand as they may not be the sort of thing that your local motorist's centre will have on their shelves. But they should be available.
Failing that, look for a salvaged unit from a breaker's yard.
