From memory, the main front to rear wiring loom runs along the left hand side of the car. There's a multipole connector behind the trim in the left hand footwell which may have worked loose. There may be another one behind the boot trim panel too.

But I'd say the most likely culprit is bad earthing of the tailgate. If you have problems with the rear wiper (especially when the demister is turned on) then that would go a long way towards confirming the diagnosis. With the demister turned on, measure the voltage between a bare metal part of the tailgate and a bare metal part on the main body of the car. I would certainly expect it to be considerably less than 1 volt. If it's higher, then there's your problem.
