Using either the lock or unlock on the remote disarms the system. It only re-arms the next time you start and stop the engine (or at least turn on the accessories, by pressing and holding the start button but not the clutch or brake, then turn them back off again.)
When you leave the car, don't lock it with the card. Just walk away and make sure that the car locks (quick beep on the horn and flash of the indicators.) When you come back, it should open when you break the beam behind the driver's door handle. If you lock the car with the button on the card, then you must unlock it with the button on the card.
It may also work when you break the beams on the other door handles, but that depends on how the car is configured. This setting has to be changed by a dealer.
