This exact problem happened to me last night, I was sitting in a queue of traffic when the back windscreen exploded. I took the car straight to the garage where a sales person advised that windscreens are not covered under warranty - I obviously disagreed when the car is only 9 months old and has done less than 3000 miles.

Anyway, the upshot is that the rear windscreen is being replaced tomorrow under warranty although the garage are denying any knowledge of a design fault!!

Re: Renault Megane II - Interiors - Exploding Rear Screens (plus link to lag thread)

It happened two times to me with a Renault Espace and tinted glass. First time I had a new Espace and when it was 6 months old (around Q1 2006) the rear window exploded. Now I have bought a 2nd hand Renault Grand Espace (year 2006) and yesterday the same happened. I have a voicemail of Renault The Netherlands explaining me that they will not pay for the repair. It seems there is really something wrong. Most of the glass is after the explosion outside the car and not inside the car of course. Any more people having these exploding rear screens in a Renault Espace?
