I guess I should have read more carefully ... the member triumph2.5man said "The clockspring is built-in to the switch unit and while it is possible to dismantle the whole issue fairly quickly, Monsewer Renault will not be able to sell you any bits. The switch stalks themselves can be removed but the "brains" are in the large circuit board on which they sit."

But my question now is, can I still use the non-AUTO version? Will I only lose the AUTO lights, but everything else will remain fully functional? I think I can live with turning on and off the lights manually.

Appreciate anyone's help!

It appears from reading earlier in the thread that while the stalk with AUTO lights can be substituted, the "brains" remain inside the larger unit.

My question is this: Can I still use the non AUTO unit even though I should technically replace it with the AUTO light unit? Will I only lose the AUTO lights function, but retain functionality of everything else?

hi, you will probably find you will also loose the auto wipers function ? I believe the same brain in the circuit board behind the switches controls both functions
(I'm sure someone will correct me if this is wrong 1).
Personally I would return the part and request refund or correct unit. Al

Angry Re: CLOCKSPRING (aka "rotational connector!") *FIXED*

Having studied this thread and googled and YouTube, I successfully replaced my faulty clockspring .... Or so I thought until a few days later trying to get into a tight parking space I felt the steering give, the dreaded noise came back and the airbag light popped up

Thankfully, the breakers yard were very good saying the clockspring may have been on it's way out and refunded me. I now have another and with that a dilemma as I now worry that maybe I THOUGHT it was properly aligned but wasn't??

I have scrutinised the faulty one and have noticed that when I turn the black casing there are TWO small white dots on the White casing underneath and one recessed area with two small dots at the bottom.

When I fitted the last one I lined the black casing with the N at the top the dot was at approx 2 o clock.

(The clockspring I'm playing with at the minute is broken so obviously will keep turning but I can align all three of the above in the 2 pm position - so how will I actually know which is correct)

I've taken pictures but I don't know how to uploAd them on here :-(

Help desperately needed as car is off road until mot tomorrow

Thanks all

Re: CLOCKSPRING (aka "rotational connector!") *FIXED*

Brilliant thread. I used it to take off my wheel last night and check my Rotational connector / clock spring / airbag ribbon thing. All appeared to be in order. Unfortunately the service light and check steering message are still there for me so it must be another problem.

In case anyone needs to know. How I checked my spring was centered. If I depressed the metal tab and then turned the spring until the tab clicked into the next slot. I counted 19 clicks each way, clock wise and counter clock, until I met resistance. There are quite a few little holes but it's kind of obvious that one is much bigger than the others and when you've counted the tight number of clicks to the centre it will be sitting there in the window at 2 o'clock.
