Thanks Hondo for the advice

Here are the three options for clockspring alignment - can anyone advise which would be correct

Another Utube flick of how to deal with the ribbon cable once you've repaired it- Explains how it's supposed to work. May be of some use to those with soldering skills.
Best of luck everybody.
One thing this thread has advised me is not to use full lock if avoidable...

Hi there,

sorry to dig up an old thread but do you really need to replace the whole unit rather than just the clock spring itself as you can buy this for a tenth of the price?

Re: CLOCKSPRING (aka "rotational connector!") *FIXED*

Just reading this thread out of interest and for those of you who would like to change the ribbon cable itself you might be able to purchase a replacement from here.

There are all sizes and lengths up to 300mm, standard and reverse connections. Standard connections are connectors on the same side of the cable, reverse connectors are on each side of the cable.
I have used this company a few times for ribbon cables for laptops that I have repaired and the cables are good quality, generally better than the OEM one that I am replacing in the laptop.
Delivery takes a while as stuff comes from China
