Smile Oldish ,car tips but maybe still relevant .

When I was knee high to a geasshopper, or whatever :
There used to be magazines like "car mechanics" etc.

A recent thread of mine, reminded me of some of the recommendations/ tip of the month wins 5 etc

Ones I remember:

Oil filter change: If its stuck, aside from the puncture the filter method.
Use a leather belt(trousers for the holding up of type).
It does grip the filter unless its very oily already.
Yes I know there are specialised filter wrenches you can buy, probably were then too.

Another one, .concerned with oil changes.
This isnt so relevant now..
Castrol gtx , gallon can.assuming you had an empty one,
Make a hole on the side near the top.Use a tin snips to cut along the top edge on one side, cut down from this an inch or 2 on the wide panel.
A bit of pushing and bending.
Now you have a sump drain container..
Place the can(cut side up) under the sump.
Drain the oil .
Stand the can up, now you got all the old oil in a container.
What you did with it then, back in the late 70's/early 80's was up to you .

Im sure I could remember some more.
Anyone else got "tips of the month"?
Currently in coup's garage:
RM III coupe 1.5dci FVT,Audi TT Mk1 ,a bike and too much rubbish.
