hi mate, unfortunatley you do indeed need to remove the drivers seat to get to the amplifier, it isnt a head unit as such but more a sort of computer/amplifier, with power leads in and outputs to the instrument panel, satallite, multichanger, speakers etc, its not advisable to take out the seat yourself due to the pretensioner on the buckle, you can however unbolt the seat and lift it backwards to access the plastic cover panel, pull back the carpet and take out the 20torx screws to lift off the panel, check for water ingress in the well where the unit sits, if its damaged by water then it will need to be replaced and im afraid its not going to be cheap, a new one will be around 450 from a dealer, other options may include having the unit repaired by a specialist or perhaps another unit from a breakers yard, if you can get one,

Good luck mate.
