Hi there,

yes, you are correct - the channel acts as a gutter on a house.

hence why I'd suggested using a lolly stick (or likewise) to run along the freshly-applied sealant, in the first instance it ensures that no gaps exist between sealant and bodywork, in the second instance it recreates the 'bevel' in the original sealant, allowing it to function as before.
