Dead Instrument Panel - What should I do?

Hi all,
The instrument panel on my '01 1.6 Laguna also seems to have failed. No speedo, revs, fuel etc... Tried the fuses which are okay. Disconnected the battery overnight and still nothing. Seem to be looking at purchasing a replacement but just want to check a couple of things before I do. Is there anything else I can do to get it working again or does it sound like it is already dead? No way am I paying dealer prices so am considering purchasing one from a renault breakers specialist (will sort mileage out later) and installing myself. Will it just work straight away or would it need programming? Is there anything else I need to be wary of?

Also if the current one has died, would whatever had caused this do the same to a replacement? Car wasn't bump started, just parked up but I believe the alarm had been going off about half an hour before (can't be certain it was my alarm).
